Attention Residents Of Fort Simpson:

While we do not know the full extent of the fire, we can confirm it did not enter any of the subdivisions on the hill last night. The cold front now coming through does bring wind, but the lower temperatures mean the fire will be less intense. Crews will continue to install protections and monitor, taking advantage of the colder, rainy forecast for the next couple days.

We can confirm that the Fort Simpson Landfill was impacted by the fire. Damage assessments are currently underway.

The outlook has improved, but when the weather turns warm again the danger will return. Fire crews will need to go through the burnt areas and make sure they are fully extinguished, and time will be needed to assess infrastructure and get essential services back up and running. We ask residents to exercise patience while the work continues to keep the Village safe.
