July 8, 2026. | 10PM – Community Fire Update

Attention Residents Of Fort Simpson:

Rain showers off and on today. The first one this morning did not extinguish much fire, but it did slow its growth for several hours. On the plus side, rain allows the crews to catch up to the fires and put them out before they get larger and spread. On the minus, it makes fuel removal via ignitions impossible and weakens the already damaged root systems of burnt trees making them more likely to fall.

All in all, as the first significant precipitation since this whole affair began, it was quite a welcome sight. If not just for being something different. Tomorrow the fire crews will continue on, rain or shine, and search out every inch of fire they can. In an area the size of Wildrose, that can take quite a while indeed. We hope to have more concrete progress updates on the fire overhaul and blackline status soon, as that will give us a better timeline for implementation of re-entry.

Keep on keeping on,

Mahsi Cho, Thanks,
