Attention Residents Of Fort Simpson:
Lower overall temperatures and windspeed today resulted in less fire activity and as a result its was able to be managed by a combination of ground crews and aircraft. The island was treated to an airshow of every type of firefighting aircraft available as they provided suppression to fires smoldering above town. On the hill, crews hunted spot fires and overhauled previously burned areas.
Residents should be advised that there are still many fires burning in isolated pockets along the highway and in all subdivisions. Structure protection crews will be patrolling all night to tackle these problems as they arise.
Additionally, any burnt tree could have had its root structure destroyed and as such should be treated as an overhead hazard. Please be cautious when driving as a tree could have fallen onto the road and cause obstruction.
Please be advised that due to lack of staff for maintenance and cleaning, the Fitness Center, Library, and Village Information Center are officially closed.
We will have more updates on the progress of the fire situation and other operational information as we move forward. Thank you all for your continued patience.
Mahsi Cho, Thanks,
-Village Incident Command
