Last night at approximately 7 PM, FS 016 was pushed by strong winds and burned around the tank farm at the Wrigley turnoff. There were no ignitions to structures on the property or damage to the fuel tanks.
Due to forecasted even stronger winds and decreased cloud cover, fire behaviour today is expected to be extreme from 11am-11pm. Crews are standing by to protect structures on the Eastern side of Highway 1. Residents still in the community are advised to stay away from the areas where firefighters are working and should be aware that the causeway could be closed at any time.
This is expected to be a difficult day on the fire line. We will continue to support the operation on our end and urge the good people of Fort Simpson to support each other wherever they may be.
Thank you, Mahsi Cho
